Enriching Experiences for All Ages: Programs, Tours, and Hands-On Learning at Rancho Los Cerritos

There’s something for everyone at Rancho Los Cerritos! We offer programs for visitors of all ages, from infants to retirees. One of the guiding principles of the organization is to enliven understanding and appreciation of RLC as a historical resource with engaging curricula, programming, and experiences to serve students and adults with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusivity and accessibility.

Engaging Curricula

Adelante: The People of Rancho Los Cerritos is RLC’s 4th grade school tour program. Living history volunteers bring the cattle ranch and sheep ranch eras of the Rancho to life for thousands of students each year. This interactive field trip highlights the contributions of all the people who contributed to Rancho Los Cerritos over the years, including owners, families, and workers.

RLC is currently developing an innovative environmental curriculum that will complement the Looking Back to Advance Forward water recapture and reuse system. Stay tuned for updates as this curriculum evolves!

Educational Programs

  • RLC's Storytime programs promote literacy, expand vocabulary, empower young minds, ignite imagination, and inspire creativity in children.
  • Summer Camps at Rancho Los Cerritos provide a fun and educational day camp experience for local elementary- and middle school students, as well as an enriching volunteer opportunity for high schoolers and young adults.
  • RLC presents lectures, workshops, and screenings for adults and families that complement and enhance the adobe house, gardens, and exhibitions in the Visitor Center.

Tour Experiences

On-site visitors to the Rancho can take self-guided or guided tours of the house and grounds. Passionate and knowledgeable docents are available during public hours to lead guided tours of the adobe home and the historic gardens.

Rancho Adventure Tours are special tours offered for groups of children, including homeschool groups. In these tours, children explore the house, engage in a hands-on 19th-century chore, and play Victorian lawn games.
